Religious population changes in Lebanon create fears
Raleigh Times Wednesday 28th July, 2010
Lebanon’s Moslem ruling party has expressed concern about the future of Christian congregations in the Middle East.
Ahmad Hariri, the secretary-general of the Lebanese Future Movement, has said there might be repercussions from the amount of Christian emigration from Lebanon and other Middle East countries.
Speaking at a press conference he called on Arabs and Christians alike to ensure the nurturing of the Christian presence in the region.
He said the effort to ensure the Christian population remained in the area was "as much an Arab and Islamic responsibility as a Christian one."
The comments came amid concerns over the growing Shi’ite influence in Lebanon.
Christian, Sunni and Druse populations in Lebanon, have long been worried about the rise of the Shi’ite population, with many searching for new horizons.
Christians, who used to constitute a majority in Lebanon, are in a relatively futile bid for power in the Lebanon parliament.
The Christian population has now lost its majority due to decades of emigration and the high birthrate of Muslims.

Christians in Muslim countries must really love Jesusloving a man that is brave enough to turn his cheeck and trusts in Gods will. A Loving man that was brave and stood up for God because He totally trusts God. He loved us all so much that he endured death so that we all believe He died.. otherwise like the muslims say, that Isha escaped from death. Love is a power that is rewarded directly from God.. this is the path to paradise, for you and everyone you Love |

| This is a sad indictment on Islam. The Christians were there long before Islam was invented. What are their rights in a country they have lived and called their home for centuries...It’s appalling. I also feel sorry for the Sunni and Druse population as Shi’ites are a quarrelsome and fanatic bunch of wing-nuts. Just look at Iran and the killing of Sunnis and members of other branches of Islam in Pakistan, Iraq etc etc etc. The so-called “Religion of peace” is a myth.... |

| I wish them luck, my experience tells me that, if you live in a bad neighborhood, get robbed, house broke in, car gets stolen, friends get shot, you move to a better neighborhood, around ppl w/ the same values. In parts of Nigeria & other African countries, muslims & christians are going into towns & neighborhoods & killing one another. I propose the same thing will happen in Lebanon. |
